Work Stress & Anxiety: Stress Recovery Strategies by ABGW
Managing Work Stress, Work Anxiety and Burnout in Women
Work Stress & Anxiety: Stress Recovery Strategies by ABGW is a trauma-aware podcast for women dealing with work stress, work anxiety, high-functioning stress, work-related stress, and burnout in women.
Hosted by Cheryl Paris, clinical hypnotherapist and stress recovery coach, this show offers practical tools, grounded insight, gentle humour, and nervous-system-aware support for women who manage teams, lead services, run businesses, or quietly carry more than they should.
ABGW stands for Amazing, Brilliant, Gorgeous, Wonderful.
Each episode explores the hidden cost of keeping it together: overthinking, sleep disruption, emotional load, workplace pressure, boundaries, burnout risk, and the private exhaustion behind “I’m fine.”
No fluff. No fake wellness theatre. No pretending a scented candle can fix a workplace culture with structural indigestion.
Shared stories are anonymised. This podcast is for reflection and education only, not medical, psychological, legal, or workplace advice.

In this thought-provoking episode of ABGW, join Cheryl Paris as she delves into the art of mindful communication during challenging situations. If you’re feeling smart yet secretly exhausted, this episode is tailored for you. Cheryl invites you to reflect on past experiences where you successfully navigated difficulties, whether it was dealing with a tricky builder or calming a child after a nightmare.
Cheryl encourages you to distil those moments of clarity into actionable skills, suggesting that you slow your voice and offer one clear option at a time. She provides practical advice on how to implement this technique in your daily interactions, even suggesting a simple two-minute timer before responding to emails. By reading your response aloud, you can ensure your message is steady and composed.
Throughout the episode, Cheryl reassures you that you are not starting from scratch; you are building on existing strengths at a pace that feels right for you. She reminds listeners that it’s perfectly acceptable to seek professional support if you ever feel overwhelmed, emphasising that every small step counts towards a brighter, more balanced future.

Reframing Complexity And Coping
Recall A Comparable Win
SPEAKER_01Welcome to ABGW. Amazing, brilliant, gorgeous, wonderful, five mindful minutes for your real life, not your imaginary perfect one. If you're smart, capable, and secretly exhausted, you're in the right place. So too complex often means I can't see myself coping here. Is that fair enough? You might remember a time you handled something difficult but similar. Maybe you were negotiating a builder's delay. You were getting a neurotic painter or decorator to behave. Maybe you were trying to sort the printer out.
Extract The One-Line Skill
Apply It To Work Conflicts
Quick Email Tempo Trick
Closing And Support Reminder
SPEAKER_00Maybe it was settling a child after a nightmare. You pick one. What did you do that worked? Steady tone, clear next step, naming the obvious. What I want you to do is imagine extracting the skill in one line. Maybe it was I slowed my voice and gave one option at a time. Now transfer it to the work knot. In this peer conflict, I slowed my voice down. I offered one concrete next step. If it helps, set a two-minute timer before you reply to an email. Read your line out loud once, then send. That's it for today. Tomorrow we'll meet the fear underneath many pauses.
SPEAKER_01I've tried before and it didn't stick. If you're feeling unsafe or overwhelmed, please reach out for appropriate professional support, including myself, because you're allowed help. Because every step you take, no matter how small, is a step towards a brighter, more balanced future. Trust in your journey and remember, progress is progress no matter the pace.
